  • Poppin' Pils Now on Draught
    .
Come down and enjoy a light and refreshing Pilsener. This is the first time that we have brewed a Pilsener and it is very tasty. Our assistant brewer, Anthony, formulated the recipe and brewed the lager. When not brewing, Anthony and his mates are rockin' the Mentally Challenged Chamber with the sounds of who knows what in his band Cocktail.

The pilsener is the most popular beer style in the world. It is extremely light in color. The Poppin' Pils uses traditional Pilsener malt and Czech Saaz hops that produces a crisp refreshing beer perfect for warm summer days.

    Jim Roper Joins The Brewery
    .
Our former Assistant Brewer, Charlie Billingsley, is now working at Rock Bottom on Shea and Scottsdale. Stop by and say hello when you are up in Scottsdale.

Jim Roper is now our assistant brewer here at Four Peaks Brewing. Jim spent three years in Juneau, Alaska brewing for Alaskan Brewing Company. He also spent 4 and a half years at Pinnacle Peak Brewery. He is currently President of the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild. We look forward to drinking some of Jim's tasty brews.

New Bottling Line on the Way
    .
That's right...We bought a new bottling machine to replace the old Meheen six head filler. Jim and Andy went to Philadelphia last month to look at the bottler located at Victory Brewing in Downingtown, PA.

It is a 1996 SMB/Krones bottling line with 15 filler valves and can produce about 80 bottles per minute. It has a CO2 pre-purging cylinder and a 6 head crowner on a monobloc chassis. The labeler is a Krones Binetta which applies the front and neck labels. It will be up and running by August...so look for the Kilt Lifter and the 8th Street in a store near you and if they don't have it, ask for it.

We plan on really expanding our bottles with the new bottling machine. We will start bottling the Hefeweizen soon and plan on shipping bottles to California, Colorado, and New Mexico in the near future.

    Upcoming Events
    .
Not much happenin' this blistering summer as far as beer festivals and parties are concerned. We'll do another Beer Dinner in October, date and menu TBA. Here's what we have so far:

Flagstaff Sun Sounds Beer Festival at the County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 10 from 3 p.m. to 7p.m. This will be a good excuse to get out of the Valley and breathe some fresh, cool air. This festival is arguably the best Beer Festival in AZ. Great weather and a raucous crowd...Please no wingin' coasters...someone might lose an eye.

Elvis' Death Day is Friday, August 16th. We used to hire the great Calvin Pepper, an Elvis Impersonator, but he retired and we are too cheap to hire a real professional so come by the brewery, light a candle and file past the Elvis Shrine, to the bar, and ask for a Poppin's Pils and you've done your part for Elvis' Death Day. Get it...Elvis and Poppin' Pils...

The Tucson Suns Sounds Beer Festival at High Corbett Field is Saturday, October 12th from 5 - 9 p.m. This festival has gotten alot better than in the years past. Also, GABF in Denver is October 3 thru the 5th for those of you that need to plan for the trek.

8th Street Ale Wins Medal at the 2002 World Beer Cup
This past June, our 8th Street Ale claimed a bronze medal in the World Beer Cup 2002, a global beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today. Our Brewer, Andy and his wife crashed the posh party in Aspen, Colorado and received his medal...and there was much rejoicing.

By the way, World Beer Cup 2002 winners were selected by an international panel of 71 beer judges from a field of 1.173 entries received from 379 breweries in 38 countries. No lie...we got that straight from the press release they sent us.

And if that wasn't enough info for you, the World Beer Cup has been held every other year since 1996 and is presented by the Association of Brewers, a not-for- profit educational and trade organization founded in 1978 that is dedicated to the promotion of quality beers and brewing throughout the world...blah, blah, blah...The Association also hosts the annual Great American Beer Fiestival (GABF) in Denver. The 8th Street was awarded a silver medal at the 2000 GABF.

For those of you who have never tried the 8th Street Ale it is an Extra Special Bitter and won the award in the Ordinary Bitter Category. It has a mellow bitterness and a slightly sweet malt flavor. It's aroma is derived from rare, imported Kentish hops. A great "session beer" in which you can enjoy all night long! It is approximately 4.5% alcohol by volume. 8th Street is now in bottles!! Come pick some up at the brewery or ask your favorite store to stock it if you don't see it on the shelf. It is distributed by Alliance Beverage Distribution Co. and is currently available at Top's Liquor, Sun Devil Liquor, all of the AJ's Grocery Stores, and hopefully, your local liquor store.
